Most men get stuck as sons. Few become fathers.

The Battle gave you something most men never receive: a felt experience of being a beloved son. You came home to the Father's heart.

The parable of the prodigal son does not end with the embrace. The father in that story runs out twice. He welcomes the one who left. He goes out to the one who stayed. He is the father who loves.

Many men receive the embrace and stop there. The next becoming is into the man who runs out for others. The men coming after you need that man. So do you.

Two seasons of life, in the same room, learning from each other.

For men in their 30s and 40s

Older brothers who are honest about the road you are on.

You came up through the Battle and know what it is to be received as a son. The next question is who you are becoming. What you are missing is older brothers who are further down the road from son to father and are honest about the cost and the joy of it.

At this retreat you receive

Time with older men who are further along the road from son to father.

Honest answers to the questions you carry about marriage, family, work, and faith.

A clearer picture of the man you are becoming, and the courage to take the next step toward him.

For men in their 50s and beyond

The people in your domain still need what you carry.

You have lived enough to know what it cost to come home as a son. The question now is whether you will become the father. The men coming after you need that man.

At this retreat you receive

Clarity that what you have lived through is still needed by the men coming after you.

A way to turn regret into energy for becoming.

Recovery of dreams and deep desires that got buried along the way.

Companions for the road from son to father to sage.

Meet the leaders.

Three speakers who have each walked this road, and a host who knows the terrain because he has walked it.

I

Larry Bolden

Speaker

Larry spends his days walking alongside men in their 30s and 40s who are hungry for spiritual fathers still doing the hard heart work. His burden is to inspire older men to persevere on the journey home and to keep their hearts open to the younger men God gives them in the years ahead.

II

Frank Miller

Speaker

Frank's full bio is coming soon. He joins Larry and Mike as one of the retreat speakers and will share from his own road of becoming a beloved son and spiritual father.

III

Mike Woodham

Speaker

Mike began monthly calls with Larry in 2022 to share what they were experiencing at this stage of life. Those conversations made it clear they had more to offer than they had a venue to share. He cares deeply about the significance of a man's second half and fourth quarter.

IV

Alan Palmer

Administrator & Host

Alan came into a clearer sense of his Larger Story by sharing it with other men, and he found that retirement was not the end of his calling but the doorway to something greater. He hosts this retreat as an early Battle alumnus and a man learning to live his latter years on purpose.

Why this retreat, and why now

A small gathering of men ready to ask the question the Battle leaves you with.

This is not another conference and not another teaching weekend. It is a small gathering of men who have already done the work of the Battle and are ready for the question the Battle leaves you with: who am I becoming.

For five years Larry and Mike have carried the vision of offering their collective story to a wider circle of men. The shape of that offering is finally clear. Together with Frank, they will share how evil has hunted them, how the Father has held them, and how the long road from son to father has reshaped them.

You will have time to listen to their stories, time to sit with your own, and time to begin imagining the man you are becoming.

You will leave with a clearer sense of your part in His Larger Story and the courage to walk into it.
